Choosing The Right K-9 For Your Department

Choosing the proper K9 for your department's needs is important. There are a number of combinations to choose from (single purpose vs. dual purpose, the different breeds available, etc.) If you buy your K9 from VKSWD, Criss will meet with your department head and discuss the options available to the department and what would best fit your department's needs. Once you decide on what qualities you want in your new K-9 Criss will pick a K-9 which will fit the criteria. If we don't already have a K-9 in training which meets your department's needs, Criss will then contact his importer and place an order for a K9 that will. Criss has worked for years with his importer and they have a close relationship to where the importer knows what Criss looks for in K-9's.

Once the K-9 arrives at the Von Klein Stein Working Dogs kennel Criss begins to imprint it with either drugs or explosives and dependant on the department's order; obedience, tracking, area search, building search, bite work, etc.

We try to have a K-9 ready to go out to the handler within a month of the K9 arriving at the kennel. We schedule a handler school within 2 weeks of the handler receiving their partner, this allows bonding time before the handler begins to work the K-9.
